RWS Cares - Food Security

Food Security

Food security is a pressing issue in Singapore, affecting one in ten Singaporeans. With rising food costs, it has become imperative to take action to address the issue and ensure that everyone has access to the basic human need of healthy, nutritious food.

We are excited to partner with Food from the Heart (FFTH), an Institute of Public Character registered charity that feeds the underprivileged in Singapore, to make available fresh local produce at their four community shops across Singapore. These community shops function as a minimart for beneficiaries, operating on a shop-for-free concept for beneficiaries to visit and choose any selection of food items throughout the whole year.

Through the RWS Eat Well Programme, we’ve committed $300,000 for over 2,000 families supported by FFTH to access fresh local produce. Keep a look out for us as we continue to support local families get nutritious food on their plates!

Education

Education

Our sustainability educational outreach extends to a wide range of key stakeholders which include guests, team members, suppliers, tenants, communities, schools and institutions.

As part of our sustainability education and advocacy efforts, the S.E.A. Aquarium offers the Sustainability in Motion tour for visitors to learn about marine conservation at S.E.A. Aquarium and its relevance to RWS’ sustainability strategy. Upon request, we may also conduct sustainability tours for partners.

We have worked with Ngee Ann Polytechnic to foster a deeper appreciation of the environment among the younger generation. The “Sustainability@RWS” programme targets NP’s Diploma in Tourism and Resort Management (TRM) students to build local expertise in sustainability and sustainable tourism. Students can leverage learning opportunities such as a half-day tour showcasing RWS sustainability features to gather ideas and develop projects that educate stakeholders on sustainability in the resort in consultation with the RWS department leads.

In 2024, we launched Singapore's marine biodiversity-themed learning space for children in a public library, the Children's Biodiversity Library by S.E.A. Aquarium. A partnership between National Library Board (NLB) and Resorts World Sentosa (RWS), it features a diverse range of engaging and interactive features, as well as monthly programmes led by trained volunteers to learn more about marine habitats and marine life. The Children’s Biodiversity Library is located at Central Public Library, B1 of National Library Building (100 Victoria Street). Entry to the library and participation in the programmes on offer are free of charge.

Climate Change

Climate Change

Climate change is an urgent issue and beyond addressing it in our business operations we also have the unique opportunity to educate our stakeholders that Earth is our shared responsibility.

RWS Cares

Local First

Procuring from local businesses reduces the emissions generated from transport, while supporting local livelihoods. At RWS, we have adopted a local-first approach in procurement. In fact, nearly 90% of our spending in 2022 were on local businesses.

For its efforts in purchasing fresh ingredients such as eggs and beansprouts from homegrown farms, RWS was awarded the highest tier of Singapore Food Agency (SFA)’s Farm-to-Table (FTT) Recognition Programme. We engage extensively with local farms to understand their farming best practices and production capabilities, and see how we can collaborate to meet RWS’ food demand.

RWS also supports social enterprises by providing them with shelf space to sell their products. Shop for good at these shelves located at S.E.A. Aquarium, Adventure Cove Waterpark, and Hotel Ora – with your purchase, you’ll be supporting a charitable cause as well.
